What is OSHA 10-Hour Construction?

OSHA 10-Hour Construction is the most requested safety course on American job sites. It's part of OSHA's voluntary Outreach Training Program, and it gives new and entry-level workers a working knowledge of the hazards they'll face on a construction site, how to protect themselves, and what their rights are under federal law.

It is not a license or certification to perform a specific task. It is the card most general contractors, project owners, and unions in the Chicago area ask to see before a worker steps on site.

What the course covers

OSHA sets the outline for every Outreach course. The 10-hour Construction class includes:

TopicTimeWhat you learn
Introduction to OSHA2 hrsWorker rights, employer responsibilities, how to file a complaint, how inspections work
Focus Four hazards4 hrsFalls, electrocution, struck-by, and caught-in or between, the leading causes of construction deaths
Personal protective and lifesaving equipmentRequiredChoosing, wearing, and inspecting PPE
Health hazards in constructionRequiredNoise, silica, lead, chemicals, heat, and other exposures
Electives2+ hrsChosen for your crew, such as scaffolds, ladders and stairways, excavations, materials handling, or tools

Because Zahid chooses electives based on your work, a roofing crew spends its elective time on very different material than an electrical or concrete crew. See what's covered in OSHA 10 for the full breakdown.

Who should take OSHA 10 Construction?

  • New hires and apprentices starting their first construction job.
  • Laborers and tradespeople: carpenters, framers, drywall, concrete, roofing, masonry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, and demolition crews.
  • Workers on projects that require a card: hospitals, universities, data centers, public works, and most large commercial jobs in Cook, DuPage, Will, Kane, and Lake counties.
  • Remodelers and small contractors who want documented training for insurance and bids.

If you supervise others or are responsible for site safety, OSHA 30 Construction is the better fit. Not sure? Read OSHA 10 vs OSHA 30.

Why take it in person with Zahid?

  • Taught by someone who's done the work. Zahid has 25+ years on construction and industrial sites, so the examples come from real jobs.
  • At your site, on your schedule. No travel days, and the class can use your actual equipment and conditions as examples.
  • In your crew's language. Classes are available in English, Gujarati, and Urdu.
  • Real questions, real answers. Workers can ask about the scaffold, ladder, or trench they'll be on next week, which online courses can't offer.
  • Legitimate cards. Every graduate receives an official DOL card. Here's how to verify one.

How to book an OSHA 10 Construction class

  1. Fill out the booking form with your headcount, location, and preferred dates.
  2. Zahid confirms the schedule, electives, language, and group price.
  3. Your crew trains on-site over two or more days and receives DOL wallet cards.

Tip: If a project start date is driving the requirement, book at least two weeks ahead. A legitimate OSHA 10 can't be finished in one day.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the OSHA 10 Construction course take?

Yes. On-site training is the most common format. Zahid brings everything needed and teaches at your job site trailer, shop, office, or a nearby venue anywhere in Chicagoland.
