What is OSHA 10-Hour General Industry?

OSHA 10-Hour General Industry is the entry-level Outreach course for every workplace that isn't a construction site: distribution centers, manufacturing plants, machine shops, food processing, hospitals and clinics, hotels, retail stores, and building maintenance. It teaches workers to recognize the hazards most often behind injuries and OSHA citations in those settings.

What the course covers

The required core topics are set by OSHA:

  • Introduction to OSHA: worker rights, employer responsibilities, and how to report hazards
  • Walking and working surfaces: slips, trips, falls, ladders, and dock edges
  • Exit routes, emergency action plans, and fire prevention
  • Electrical safety
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Hazard communication: labels, safety data sheets, and chemical safety

Elective time is matched to your operation. Common choices include powered industrial trucks (forklifts), machine guarding, lockout/tagout, materials handling, ergonomics, and bloodborne pathogens.

Who should take it?

  • Warehouse and distribution workers along the I-55, I-80, I-88, and I-90 corridors
  • Production, assembly, and machine operators
  • Maintenance technicians and facility staff
  • Healthcare support, environmental services, and food service teams
  • New hires at any company that wants documented baseline safety training

Supervisors and safety coordinators should consider OSHA 30 General Industry. Not sure if you're construction or general industry? See this guide.

Why on-site training works better for facilities

  • Your hazards, not generic ones. Zahid uses your docks, racking, machines, and chemicals as examples.
  • Shift-friendly. Sessions can be scheduled for any shift without sending people offsite.
  • Language access. English, Gujarati, and Urdu instruction for multilingual workforces.
  • One record for the whole team. Everyone trains together and is documented together.

How to book

  1. Fill out the booking form with your headcount, shifts, and location.
  2. Zahid confirms the schedule, electives, and group price.
  3. Your team trains on-site and every graduate receives a DOL wallet card.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between OSHA 10 General Industry and OSHA 10 Construction?

General Industry follows 29 CFR 1910 and is for fixed workplaces like warehouses, plants, hospitals, and stores. Construction follows 29 CFR 1926 and is for building, renovation, and demolition work. Pick the one that matches where you work most.

Can you schedule OSHA 10 around our shifts?

Yes. Classes can run across two full days or be split into shorter sessions that fit first, second, or third shift, as long as no day exceeds OSHA's 7.5-hour limit.

Does OSHA 10 General Industry cover forklifts?

Powered industrial trucks can be included as an elective. Note that OSHA 10 does not replace the separate forklift operator training and evaluation OSHA requires under 1910.178.

How many workers can attend one class?

OSHA limits Outreach classes to 40 students per trainer. For larger workforces, Zahid can run several sessions back to back.
